Gabion is a mesh product widely used in engineering fields.

1. Material composition

Gabion is made of high-quality low-carbon steel wire or PVC-coated steel wire with corrosion resistance, high strength, wear resistance, and ductility, and is woven by machine into a hexagonal mesh in the shape of a honeycomb. This mesh structure is flexible and easy to assemble and process.

2. Product form

Gabion box: In general, the gabion box is a rectangular box assembled from 4 pieces of gabion nets, one large and three small. The large piece of gabion net is bent into the column of the box, and the three small pieces of gabion net are placed at both ends of the box and used as the middle partition. Because the gabion net is flexible to assemble, it can also be assembled into other shapes according to the actual application scenario requirements.

Gabion pad: A box structure made of gabion net cut and bent. Unlike the gabion box, the thickness of the gabion pad is generally about 15cm~50cm, the height is relatively low, and the structure is flatter and wider. Generally, the diameter of the steel wire around the edges of each mesh plate of the gabion mesh mat is thicker than that of the steel wire in the middle mesh mat, in order to increase the strength of the overall structure of the gabion mesh mat.

Good water permeability: The retaining wall and slope protection built with mesh boxes are filled with loose materials with more pores, which is conducive to the discharge of pore water in the backfill and the soil layer under the slope protection. Once the surface water infiltrates into the soil, it can be discharged quickly through the masonry, effectively lowering the groundwater level, thereby reducing the groundwater pressure behind the wall and under the slope.

Stability and strong overall function: The gabion mesh is a double-twisted grid structure woven by special machinery. Local damage will not cause overall damage to the box cage. The gabion mesh material has moderate deformation characteristics, connecting the entire project into a whole without seams. Even if there is uneven subsidence, the overall structure will not produce cracks or serious problems.

According to relevant experiments, the anti-scouring coefficient of the gabion mesh structure is twice the anti-scouring coefficient of the general riprap protection project. Affected by the scouring of water flow, even if the blocks in the gabion mesh cushion are displaced, the deformed box cage structure will produce a new balance, and the overall integrity will not be destroyed.
